How can we conserve water from kitchen sink?

gamz4fun asked:

I would like to conserve water from my kitchen sink and need your help. There are times when I need to use hot water and run the tap until the water gets hot. I would like to buy/make a hose that I can attach to my sink so I can run the water to another container. Kitchen water taps are threaded so an aerator can be screwed on, is there a hose that can be similarly attached to save water?

Copper Kitchen Sinks Buying Tips

February 8th, 2010 | Posted in sinks   Add Comment
mehul asked:

Sinks are very clearly one of the most major utility-equipments in a kitchen. And if along with the use and utility, they provide charm, elegance and décor to the kitchen and enhance the beauty of the kitchen many times over, then isn’t it absolutely wonderful? Well such is the quality of copper sinks that are quickly finding their mark among the people too because of their incredible artistic and aesthetic appeal that they offer. But there are few things about which you need to know before you buy your copper kitchen sink. Some of them are…

First and foremost thing that you need to know about copper sinks is that the quality of copper used in the sink should be supreme because that is what will serve for the ornamental and the durable value of your sink. If you use poor quality copper then leaves stains and marks are left on the sink. Plus a good copper sink is very hard and very much dent-resistant. Copper is, by property, a bacteria-resistant metal. But some copper sinks come with special coating on them that totally erases all the anti-bacterial properties of copper. So it is advisable that when you buy your sink, then try to make sure that such coatings are not there so that the sink becomes naturally germ and bacteria resistant. Also it is very obvious that such coatings always wear off giving a very bad texture to the sink. It is also very important to buy sinks that have copper seams. First check if the sink has a seam at all because there are many kinds that don’t come with a proper seam. And then seam should also be welded with copper metal. Because if this is not taken care of the sink will not last and will give away. The thickness of the sink is also a really major concern. It is necessary that the sink be of decent thickness so that it is resistant to major pressure and stresses. The thickness that is most preferable is that of 14 gauges (the thickness ranges from 8 to 14 gauges). Also you may try to ascertain that the thickness of the copper metal is uniform throughout the sink by checking the gauge at all points. Also it should be made sure that the shape of the sink remains intact and does not bend or change during the process of installation of the sink. And in cases of damage to the sink, it is always convenient to make sure from the company whether they will replace it as the fault is in the installation.

And finally it is also important to know that it is not an easy task to maintain a copper sink. It is truly very difficult to maintain the look and the glow of a copper sink. However it grows more aesthetically appealing with time. It will last a very long time but for that it needs proper care. Only if such effort may be put in, should a copper kitchen sink be bought or used by a household.

how do you remove a kitchen sink drain hole tube?

February 7th, 2010 | Posted in sinks   Add Comment
. asked:

The tube where the water runs immediately after the drain hole for a kitchen sink faucet is cracked and needs to be replaced. How do you get this tube to come off?
The copper pipe for the drainage hole is cracked.
Is there a washer thats needs to be unscrewed for the copper drainage pipe to come off? Can anything else besides channel lock pliers be used to take this off? Can this simply be replaced by buying another copper pipe at the hardware store?

Tips For Selecting the Most Effective Kitchen Sink Water Filter To Give You Healthy Safe Water

January 26th, 2010 | Posted in sinks   Add Comment
Ray Hamilton asked:

The benefits of a sink water filter cannot be understated today and is important if you want to live a longer and healthier life. It is essential that the water we consume is as pure as possible and not the chemical cocktail it has become, so here are some tips to guide you to the very best today.

As we are composed of 70% water ourselves, the quality of what we drink directly affects our health and well-being and needs to be as pure as possible, making a kitchen sink water filter the perfect solution.

With recent studies highlighting the fact that we have over 2000 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer in our drinking water today including pesticides, herbicides, chlorine and lead, the right system is vital.

A study of 29 major U.S. cities by the Environmental Working Group found that all 29 cities had traces of at least one weed killer in the drinking water. The report titled “Weed Killers by the Glass” went on to say that millions of Americans are routinely exposed to one or more pesticides in a single glass of tap water.

According to the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, “Cancer risk among people using chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose supply does not contain it.”

With the risks so great and the solution so simple, why take the chance?

The two main types of sink water filter are reverse osmosis (RO) and carbon block filters. The RO systems fail to stop many of today’s harmful synthetic chemicals getting through as their filters are not small enough but what they do remove are vital trace minerals like calcium and magnesium.

We need these minerals to remain healthy or we are at risk of becoming mineral deficient.

The most effective type which actually chemically bonds the contaminants to the surface of the filter are activated granular carbon ones with the best employing a multi-stage process and ion exchange to ensure that 99% of all the contaminants are removed.

These will leave you with healthy safe water with all those vital minerals left in and will help you and your family maintain much better health than if you drank unfiltered water.

Visit my website today if you would like to learn more about the types of kitchen sink water filter systems that I personally recommend and use.

Why Shop Direct – Everything For The Kitchen

January 23rd, 2010 | Posted in sinks   Add Comment
temp_124225 asked:

Most Americans who want to remodel, or upgrade their kitchen, think about their local hardware store chain when it comes to where to shop. While this is an easy solution, it’s probably not the best. This article focuses on the advantages of buying direct from a retailer that focuses on a more specific market, instead of the "everything under one roof" approach of the big chain stores.

It’s common sense that if you can buy everything from nails to concrete to lumber to lawn mowers at a store, it’s probably not going to have the widest variety of what you need when you really want to get a remodeling or building job right. For an example, consider www.BeesonDirect.com, which specializes in all types of decorative fixtures and hardware for bathrooms, kitchens, cabinet hardware and general hardware, and similar decorative fixtures and items. No nails and lawn mowers, which means that you know they’re really paying attention. Beeson Direct has been in business since 1883, so they were in the industry to witness the creation of every single new invention or design in the industry for over a hundred years!

So let’s consider just one category of Beeson Direct’s offering - kitchen fixtures: they carry kitchen sinks (including cast iron kitchen sinks and several other types of kitchen sink of varying designs, made from different types of material), kitchen sink faucets, cabinet hardware and other types of specialized hardware and fixtures. Now consider this: Beeson Direct carries kitchen sinks from more than 30 top manufacturers! So you’re talking variety, right? See what I mean at this link: http://beesondirect.com/undermount-kitchen-sinks/undermount-kitchen-sinks.html

Of course they’re not all just about kitchen sinks; there are all types of quality home fixtures by the best manufacturers at Beeson Direct. Check it out for yourself.

I have low Pressure to kitchen sink and bathroom sinks, good in other places?

January 20th, 2010 | Posted in sinks   Add Comment
Kenneth B asked:

I am rehabbing a townhouse. I get good pressure from places that don’t go through the hot water tank. In the kitchen and bathrooms the pressure is low. I put in a new hot water tank thinking that would help (it was rusted too) and the problems persisted. Is their a hidden reducer that needs to be adjusted. All the piping is copper. Any suggestions.

Why Does My Kitchen Faucet Always Leak?

January 12th, 2010 | Posted in sinks   Add Comment
chandu palle asked:

Drip. Drip. Drip. Nothing’s quite as annoying as the monotonous patter of a leaky faucet dipping into kitchen sinks. But why do faucets leak, and how can you prevent it from occurring? Well, if you purchased a cheap kitchen faucet made of cheap parts with cheap labor, then chances are it will start leaking shortly after installation. However, if you purchased a quality Rohl Faucet or Blanco Faucet, the chances of your faucet leaking are minimal.

The main cause of a leaky faucet is wear and tear. Cheaper kitchen faucets break down faster, it’s a fact. They are constructed with low-quality sealants and rings, which do not withstand the daily rigors that a family will put on a kitchen faucet.

Leaking near the handle: Children will lean on faucet handles, or push them up higher and higher thinking that it will allow more water to come out. Teenagers will be careless and smack the faucet handle up or down. And of course, we adults will also push the faucet to its breaking point now and again. This sort of pressure will wear down the internal O-rings of a faucet causing it to leak near the base of the handle.

Dripping from the nozzle: This is the annoying pitter patter that you hear while trying to fall asleep. The first possibility is that the faucet is just not turned off completely. The second possibility is that the internal washer is corroded, or a valve seat needs to be replaced. Put simply, the internal parts are worn down.

Again, when you purchase high-quality kitchen faucets from manufacturers like Rohl or Blanco, you needn’t worry about leaks for many years. This is because they are constructed with sturdy materials, and assembled professionally and meticulously to withstand day-to-day use.
