What is the cylindrical thing (part of the sink) that is next to the faucet on some kitchen sinks?
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010I never had a sink with one before but we bought a new house and it has one. I want to know what it is called and what the function is. It’s something with a cylindrical cap about 3″-4″ tall that sits atop the sink. I know they’re relatively common.
Here is a picture I found doing an image search. It’s the thing to the left of the faucet.

I guess it could be a sprayer hook up but that would be kind of dumb since our faucet itself has an extendable sprayer on the end.
I bet Nick and Peep are right. I wonder how if works.
