Granite sinks have come a long way in terms of durability and features. While stainless steel sinks are scratch and stain resistant, granite sinks are invulnerable to scratches and staines that would normally affect stainless steel sinks. Granite sinks can be manufactured from environmetally friendly materials and may even include bacteria killing silver ions. While granite sinks are most expensive than stainless steel sinks, the durability makes it the best investment.

How and Why You Should Find Kitchen Remodeling Ideas Online

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009
Jorge Ribeiro asked:

If you’ve been living in your home for a considerable number of years, you probably know every inch of your house and can maneuver through it with your eyes closed. You have also grown accustomed to how everything in your house is placed. While some argue that familiarity breeds contempt, most homeowners continually love their home just as it is. But the case is not always the same for some people.

Some people easily get bored with routine. At times, we get tired of the same thing everyday. Kitchens are no exceptions. The kitchen is probably the most visited part of the house and if you feel that every trip to your kitchen is deadening, it’s about time you remodel it.

Kitchen remodeling can be fun. It doesn’t have to be very tedious or exhaustive. The thrill starts with the planning. You will have to decide whether only a part of the kitchen needs remodeling or whether the entire room needs a major makeover. Start by checking out your kitchen sinks and countertops. If you feel they have served their best years, you can have them replaced. Try on a different color and texture. Set a theme. You can purchase new sets for your fixtures that will blend perfectly with the kitchen theme that you desire. You just need to know exactly what you want to change in your kitchen so you won’t have to rethink about your ideas in the middle of the project. The problem with most people nowadays is that they don’t know exactly what they want then end up in a mess.  That is obviously something that you don’t want for your kitchen improvement project.

If you have decided that you will have a kitchen makeover, but are not pretty sure as to how much will be remodeled in your kitchen, you might want to ask for some assistance from a kitchen remodeling expert. Professional assistance requires that you hire a personal kitchen remodeler who can greatly help you determine what you want for your kitchen. Kitchen remodelers or kitchen remodeling contractors are individuals or companies that have the proper training in the art of decorating and remodeling kitchens. They have the field experience and can thus, offer great suggestions on what should be replaced and specify what the replacements should be. But take note though that professional remodeling contractors charge for their expert advice and services.  If you’re working on a modest budget, there is an alternative to a kitchen remodeling expert.

The internet is definitely a good resource if you’re scouting for kitchen remodeling ideas. There are a lot of online resources that offer the latest trends in kitchen furnishings—from kitchen countertops to kitchen flooring, to kitchen cabinets, to kitchen lighting and other fixtures. The information and advice that you can get online is about the same (and sometimes even better) than a professional kitchen remodeler since the internet has a very huge amount of information on a wide array of topics. The internet is also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which means that you can access all the information without the need for an appointment. It is quick and easy to use. Just enter the appropriate keywords on your favorite search engine website and you will automatically get a full listing of different websites that cater to your needs. Be sure to use specific keywords though. So if you are looking for granite countertops, perform a search by typing “granite countertops” as your keyword so you’ll get exactly the stuff that you need.

The best thing about the internet is that it’s free of charge and requires no deposit.

Try Everything Including the Kitchen Sink

Friday, December 18th, 2009
Jeremy Stanfords asked:

Dating back to prehistoric times, sinks originally simply served a particular plumbing function. Generally used to wash small items, sinks were chosen based on their durability and the size needed for specific tasks. Unless you were royalty or extremely wealthy, it was not until the middle of the 20th century that the choice of a sink became a decorating decision as well as one of functionality. Sinks have evolved from simple functional items to the focal point of the room, whether the kitchen, bathroom, bar or laundry area, the design of the sink is quite often the determining factor in the room’s decor.

Available in hundreds of styles and materials, sink manufacturing has become a billion-dollar industry. Made from every imaginable material from gold to tin, the design possibilities seem endless. Sinks usually include a faucet capable of dispensing both hot and cold water. It too is available in hundreds of styles and varieties. Top sink designers compete yearly for prestigious awards, based upon the design, durability, functionality and, the newest category emerging due to the discovery of global warming, the “green” sink.

When choosing a sink, one should consider the function, size and shape best suited to meet the owner’s needs. Popular for its durability, sleek design and ease of cleaning, stainless steel has made a comeback in recent years, becoming the sensible and fashionable choice for many kitchen redecorating endeavors. The advent of stainless steel appliances and their popularity has made this economic selection also a trendy design feature in many homes.

Stylish architects are adding new materials to their designs and are making some new and interesting choices. One example, for a more contemporary look and design available in a wide variety of colors are glass sinks. Glass is sophisticated, elegant and becoming more common due to its beauty and charm. The colors can be warm and charming and suit many different decorating schemes.

With more and more people entertaining at home, built-in bar sinks are becoming a must when decorating the entertainment area. Some fun choices are available using copper, porcelain and hand-sculpted granite. The bar area is where guests will tend to “hang-out” and some of the new choices are very warm and welcoming. Combined with artistic faucets, the bar sink can be a fun addition to the area.

Purely for the elegant aesthetic effect, vessel sinks are quite popular, although not always practical in a “family home.” Vessel sinks have been described as art pieces and rightly so. Although a bit more expensive, the vessel sink sits entirely on top of a counter. Its distinctive design and construction is very luxurious, exclusive and is usually chosen more for its eye appeal than for functionality.

Regardless of the type of sink one chooses, it is a good idea to take time and consider all the options. Sinks are durable and last many years. The right choice will last the lifetime of the room, so it is best to consider the designs carefully before deciding which type of sink will fit one’s needs.

Carol H asked:

I have cleaned them with every cleanser. I can`t use bleach but I am tempted to, they say bleach will turn my sinks yellow. I don`t know what to do. I have even tried baking soda with hot water and let them sit over night. No such luck again!!

How to Clean the Kitchen Sink

Monday, December 14th, 2009
sunny asked:

The entire kitchen can be clean but if the kitchen sink is dirty the rest of the kitchen just doesn’t seem clean either. The kitchen sink is a focal point in the kitchen so a clean kitchen sink is important to the overall level of cleanliness in the entire room. Because it is heavily used, the kitchen sink quickly becomes soiled with food, grime and even rust if you have hard water. Clean the kitchen sink well and clean it often and the rest of the kitchen will seem cleaner too.

Step 1 Empty the sink and remove everything from behind the sink. If you store your dish soap on the back of the sink, move it to the counter as you clean. If you keep a container of hand soap on the back of the sink, set it aside. Put away any dishes that may be sitting in the dish drainer and remove the dish drainer.

Step 2 Wash the sink accessories before you wash the sink itself. Start with the dish drainer. If you look closely at the dish drainer you’ll be surprised to notice the way dust accumulates along the various grooves. Use a scrub brush to wash away all of the dust from the hard to reach surfaces of the drainer. Rinse well and set the drainer aside.

Step 3 Give the dish soap bottle and hand soap bottle a quick scrub with the scrub brush. Both of these bottles can become covered in a build up of soap drippings that are unsightly. Warm water and a quick scrubbing will easily remove them and make them sparkling clean when you return them to their places on the back of the kitchen sink. Once you’ve cleaned them, dry them with a kitchen towel and set them aside until you are done cleaning the rest of the sink.

Step 4 Wet the entire sink and give it a preliminary cleaning. Use a scrub brush and a few drops of dish soap to scrub away all of the food particles that may have attached themselves to the sink. Once the obvious particles are removed from the sink you are ready to do a deeper clean.

Step 5 Use a cleaning product approved for your kitchen sink. If your sink is stainless steel you can use an abrasive kitchen cleanser but if it is porcelain you’ll need something that is approved for the more delicate surface to prevent scratching or etching. Whatever the sink is made of just check the label to make sure your cleaner is approved for it. Scrub the entire sink, the back of the sink, the faucet, and the area behind the faucet. Thoroughly rinse away all traces of the cleanser.

Step 6 Dry the entire sink with a kitchen towel. Return the drainer and soap bottles to their designated locations. Admire your sparkling clean kitchen sink!
