A Double bowl kitchen sink is clogged. Takes hours to drain. How does one remove it on “A do it yourself way”

Monday, March 16th, 2009
thanappanar asked:

This sink is fitted to a kitchen in Sydney -Belmore area, which has about 12 houses in the unit on an individual basis. It takes 6 hours to drain a half full bowl.
The first stainless steel bowl has a U plastic PVC bend & another U or S bend(PVC) which is connected to the second bowl and from this 2nd bowl a straight pipe runs down taking it out. One cannot spot a gully trap or a manwhole cover on the outside to check the outside clogging etc.
This is the first time in 3 months this is happening. Generally the sink handles only kitchen utensils wash dirt cleaned by the dish washing liquid. All solid wastes are removed before washing utensils.
Is there any chemicals which can be used to remove the clog?

Otis123 asked:

When first installed, the kitchen sink faucet and sprayer worked so well. When we needed to spray, we pushed the button, water stopped coming from the faucet and through the sprayer only. Great! Now water comes from both sources, and the power is light on both. How do I get the water to come from the sprayer only when needed, at full force???? Thank you.
Thank you all for your very detailed and informative answers! We’ll try some of these suggestions. Thank you!

Saturday, March 7th, 2009
Cherdkiat Taesookavat asked:

Many of kitchen remodeling specialists have suggested that kitchen sink is one of the most important parts of overall layout of the kitchen. It could be a disaster if you completely select the wrong type and design of kitchen sink. This is because it is unlike the other part in a kitchen that you can somehow matching them with overall theme of the kitchen but it’s not for kitchen sink. So it is crucial to learn about these little tips which will enable you to buy good quality and styles that suite to your overall theme of the kitchen.

Firstly, before you decide to do anything with kitchen re-design, planning about budget is very important. It is very important to do forward planning about the money that you are going to spend on this project and more importantly is once you finish the budget planning, you must stick with the plan. In many cases that home owners have to stop the project at the middle of the process because they have run out of budget, so make sure that this situation will not happen to you.

Do not be appealed by the luxurious and beautiful kitchen sink out there which will make you are in trouble due to its expensive price make you out of budget. Just to collect information from them but do not consider them. However, you may find that the greatest place to looking for the best kitchen sink is the internet. The key of success is you should take some time to find it and do not hurry to purchase one. Just continue shop around and be patient and keep compare the price until you can find the best one that fit to your budget and requirement.

The size of kitchen sink is very important factor that you have to know before you start to shop around. Without getting the exact size of kitchen sink before you go shopping, you increase chance to get the sink that do not fit to the space that you have and it is really waste of time and cost. But importantly you have to make sure that just get the size before you go shop around.

The design of the sink may not the first priority that you have to consider, but it is not the least thing you have to consider. Generally, most popular type of kitchen sink is one and two basin sink. It is more convenient if you can get two basin types in order to get maximum use. However, if you have limited budget and you already have dish washer machine, there is no need to get the two-basin one, as you can have one basin type only for minor washing works. You may also consider about the color of kitchen sink, you have to make sure that it will compatible with other furniture and decoration style of the kitchen.

Selecting the Perfect Kitchen Sink Faucet

Thursday, March 5th, 2009
KatNels asked:

Selecting just the right kitchen sink and faucet is more difficult that it would first appear. But homeowners, and more specifically homeowners who dwells often in the kitchen, know that there are many considerations to be made when choosing one right for their kitchen.

The Number of Basins

Take into consideration how you use your sink. Do you cook frequently and use pots and pans that need to fit in the basins? Do you want two bowls, one for washing and one for food prep? Make sure the sink first and foremost fits your needs, and figure out if you want one or two basins and how large they should be.

Flat & Deep Walls

Deeper basins can obviously hold large baking dishes for washing and a flat bottom allows you to stack dishes securely.

Drain Placement

Conventional kitchen sinks place the drain directly in the middle of the basin. Try having on offset drain (a drain that is offset), which gives you a flatter bottom surface and allows water to drain even if there are dishes in the sink.

Divider

If your kitchen sink faucet has two basins, make sure the dividing wall in the middle is slightly lower than the outer walls to provide overflow protection.

Faucet

When it comes to your faucet, if style is more important to you, shop the different finishes available. Look into faucets that can swivel, especially if you have two basins. Select a spout that fits your needs, like one that can change water pressure or provides a stream hose.

Can we easily move our washer and dryer 15 foot to the left our our kitchen sink and drain?

Monday, March 2nd, 2009
sethoakley asked:

The new location for our washer and dryer is literally 15 feet to the left our kitchen sink. Additionally, they will be located on an outside wall so the vent for our dryer shouldn’t be an issue(I hope). Is this an extremely difficult project? My electrician friend is doing the 220 for me, but isn’t into the plumbing stuff. We have a crawl space, but I’m trying to decide if this is going to be a huge project. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kitchen sink backup with significant water pressure?

Sunday, March 1st, 2009
T S asked:

When my dishwasher sends water to kitchen sink to drain there is a back up and water leaks out. Also, if there is significant water flow from the faucet the drain leaks. Under normal flow, the water moves through the pipes just fine. I’m stumped, anyone with any thoughts?

Is it normal to urinate in the kitchen sink?

Sunday, March 1st, 2009
davethegurner asked:

The bathroom in my house is 3 rooms away from where I spend most of the day but the kitchen is just next door. I have to travel through the kitchen to get to the bathroom so I usually just pee in the sink because it’s nearer and easier.

Is this a normal thing to do or would it bother some people?

Jorge
