Anybody know what’s the name of the part under the kitchen sink?

Gabriel asked:

It’s below the kitchen sink and it’s plugged into the wall, on the wall there is a switch that turns it on and off, it blends all the small garbage that goes into the sink and throws it away, basically I am trying to find out what’s going on because it was working great until now, and I looked under the sink and there is smoke, and the wire is smelling like burned plastic, so I unplugged it and now it won’t even turn on. Hope the insurance covers it, thank you for your help.

You mean a “garbage disposal”? I doubt it’s covered under insurance. Probably need to call a plumber. Garbage disposals range from about $49 up to couple hundred bucks.

Garbage disposal unit. Better keep it unplugged I would say.

Your insurance definately won’t cover a garbage disposal, but if you have a home warranty, it will.

It’s called a garbage disposal. It sounds as though it needs to be rewired, maybe because of a shorted out wire. Call a plumber & have him check it out. Of course it isn’t going to work if you UNPLUGGED it. Call the plumber.

Garbage Disposial. Glad you unplugged it.Time for a new one. Recommend a half/horse power. Any local Home Improvement store has them.. Cost? about 150.00

The circuit did not trip as it also because the circuit did not functioning you said you said you should have qualified electrician check out that breaker that feeds this wire the future.
The power wire was burning this wire the future.
For this means there is not trip as well this device next you should replace it makes it makes it the cost to fix it.
